EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

April 2022 Employee of the Month:
Alfred Black

We have been lucky to have Alfred with us at Colony for 18 years. When Alfred first started here in 2004, he started out as a Shovel Man. Then he got his CDL around 2006 and started driving the Tack Truck. He was actually the first employee to become a full time Tack Truck driver. Around 2016, he joined the Quality Control Division.

After living in Richmond for years, and Farmville for a couple years, Alfred and his wife now enjoy their home on about 38 acres in Buckingham. Outside of work, Alfred said you can find him "Lifting weights and eating a lot."

Alfred shared that his favorite part about his job has been the asphalt mix design process and all of the experimental work with balanced mix design.

Our Vice President of Quality Control, Travis Cable, had a lot of wonderful things to say about Alfred. "When I started 2 years ago, Alfred worked with me to improve our QC program. Alfred was instrumental in me understanding where we were with our mixes, not just in the lab, but how the mix worked in the field and the challenges the density techs faced in achieving density. He then led the charge in taking our new blends and redesigned all of Powhatan's mixes. He is like a sponge when it comes to learning how to design a mix to meet both lab and most importantly ease in compaction. Alfred has never complained once when asked to do anything needed to get the job done. He truly loves this company and the people he works with. Alfred is always thinking outside the box on what we can do to improve our mixes and how he can help the team win. I truly believe he is a model employee and deserves this recognition."

Thank you Alfred for your continued hard work and dedication over the years! We are grateful to have you be a part of the Colony family!

CONGRATULATIONS ALFRED!
